What is Claude?

Claude is Anthropic's general-purpose AI assistant. It is designed for conversation, reasoning, writing, coding, research, document analysis, and creating useful work products from natural-language instructions. You can ask Claude to explain a subject, review a contract, analyze a spreadsheet, build a website, debug code, create a business plan, rewrite an article, summarize research, or help organize a complex project.

Claude is especially well known for sustained work with long documents, careful writing, coding, and its Artifacts interface. Artifacts place substantial documents, code, diagrams, websites, and interactive tools in a separate working area beside the conversation, making them easier to inspect, revise, preview, and reuse. Claude Projects can also group chats, files, knowledge, and custom instructions so the assistant understands the background of an ongoing assignment instead of starting cold every time.

The Claude product has expanded far beyond basic chat. Current plans can include web search, Research, memory, code execution, file creation, connectors, remote MCP integrations, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, Claude Science, Microsoft 365 access, and desktop extensions. Like ChatGPT, Claude is improving at an extraordinary rate. Features, model names, limits, and relative performance can change in a very short period.

Why do you need Claude?

Claude is valuable whenever the work requires more than a quick answer. Many business tasks involve reading a large amount of material, understanding the underlying objective, maintaining a consistent style, and producing a polished result. Claude can work through source documents, code, interview transcripts, specifications, procedures, or previous writing and help turn that material into something usable.

It is also an excellent learning partner. You can ask Claude to explain a subject at different levels, challenge your reasoning, create examples, identify gaps in your understanding, or walk through a technical task without skipping steps. For website building, Claude can plan the site, write the copy, create HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, or framework code, diagnose problems, and place the result in an Artifact for live inspection and revision.

Claude should not be viewed as the permanent winner over ChatGPT, or as the permanent runner-up. The two systems are advancing too quickly for that. Claude may be better on a long article, a difficult codebase, a document-heavy assignment, or a particular reasoning problem, while ChatGPT may be better on image creation, broad multimodal work, agentic research, or another coding task. A serious user should keep both available and let the task determine the tool.

Pricing at a glance

Claude offers individual and team plans with usage limits that depend on conversation length, model choice, and features used. Prices and plan contents change quickly, so verify the current details before subscribing. As of July 2026, the main U.S. options are:

  • Free, $0: web, desktop, and mobile chat; writing and coding; web search; memory; code execution and file creation; selected connectors and integrations; and limited access to Claude's current capabilities.
  • Pro, $20 per month or $200 per year: more usage, unlimited Projects, Research, access to additional Claude models, and included access to products such as Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, and Claude Science where available.
  • Max 5x, $100 per month: everything in Pro with approximately five times the Pro usage allowance, higher output limits, priority access, and earlier access to selected advanced features.
  • Max 20x, $200 per month: everything in Pro with approximately twenty times the Pro usage allowance for people who use Claude heavily throughout the workday.
  • Team Standard, $20 per user per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly: team administration, collaboration, and more usage than Pro.
  • Team Premium, $100 per user per month billed annually or $125 billed monthly: approximately five times the usage of a Standard Team seat.

Enterprise adds more advanced security, administration, identity management, audit, retention, and organizational controls. API usage and consumption-based enterprise usage are billed separately from ordinary individual subscriptions.

Pros

  • Often produces polished, natural long-form writing with strong organization and tone control
  • Excellent for reading, comparing, summarizing, and reasoning across large documents and source collections
  • Artifacts provide one of the best interfaces for building and iterating on documents, websites, code, diagrams, and small tools
  • Strong coding capabilities for both non-developers and experienced programmers
  • Projects make it easy to ground Claude in a company's documents, style, code, procedures, and previous work
  • Claude Code creates a direct path from conversation to serious repository-level software work
  • Connectors and MCP support make Claude adaptable to many business knowledge and tool environments
  • Useful free plan and a straightforward $20 Pro tier for regular individual use
  • Frequent model and product improvements continue expanding what Claude can complete
  • Pairs extremely well with ChatGPT as a second opinion and alternative approach

Cons

  • Can still hallucinate facts, misunderstand instructions, or produce code that looks correct but fails, so important output requires testing and verification
  • Usage limits can be reached sooner than expected when conversations, documents, or coding sessions become large
  • Plan features and limits can be difficult to predict because usage depends on the model, context size, and type of work
  • Its product ecosystem is different from ChatGPT's and may not be as convenient for every image, voice, or broad multimodal workflow
  • Artifacts are powerful, but complex production applications still require proper development, testing, hosting, and security
  • Connected business data requires careful permissions, privacy review, and account administration
  • Claude is not consistently better than ChatGPT; ChatGPT may outperform it on particular research, image, coding, data, or agentic tasks
  • Rapid changes make old tutorials, model comparisons, and fixed recommendations become stale quickly

Who should use Claude?

Claude is a strong choice for anyone who regularly works with writing, documents, software, research, or complex ideas. It is particularly useful for:

  • Business owners who need help understanding documents, writing content, building websites, and solving unfamiliar operational problems
  • Writers, editors, marketers, and consultants who care about structure, tone, revision quality, and long-form consistency
  • Developers who want a strong coding partner for architecture, implementation, debugging, review, and repository work
  • Non-developers who want to create a website, calculator, internal tool, or interactive prototype through natural-language instructions
  • Researchers and analysts working with reports, interviews, specifications, policies, and large amounts of source material
  • Students and lifelong learners who want patient explanations, examples, questions, and step-by-step guidance
  • Teams that want to ground an AI assistant in internal knowledge through Projects, shared context, connectors, and company systems
  • Managers creating procedures, training documents, proposals, plans, decision memos, and internal communication
  • Professionals who need a second high-quality perspective before accepting ChatGPT's answer
  • Heavy users who can justify Pro or Max pricing through time saved on substantive work

How Claude fits into a growth stack

Claude belongs near the beginning of the FrostyStack stack because it can support almost every other tool and strategy. It can help create the website, refine the offer, write sales material, analyze competitors, build internal calculators, draft outreach, summarize customer feedback, document workflows, create training material, and help employees understand how the business operates.

Claude is not a replacement for hosting, a CRM, a cold email sender, an advertising account, or a dedicated automation platform. It is the intelligence and creation layer that helps you plan those systems, generate the assets they need, understand the data they produce, and solve problems when the implementation becomes complicated.

Claude works best as part of a two-tool AI strategy with ChatGPT. Use Claude when its writing, document handling, coding workflow, or Artifacts interface fits the assignment. Use ChatGPT when its research, images, voice, broader tool ecosystem, or particular model produces the better result. For difficult work, ask both. The disagreement itself can reveal missing assumptions and improve the final decision.

Our verdict

Claude is an essential AI power tool. Its combination of strong writing, document intelligence, coding, Projects, Artifacts, Research, and connected knowledge makes it useful for both learning and serious business production. It can help a beginner understand a difficult subject and help an experienced developer or executive work through a demanding project.

There is no clear permanent winner between Claude and ChatGPT. Both are improving incredibly rapidly, and the better choice changes by model release, feature, prompt, and task. Claude may be the obvious winner for one article, codebase, or document analysis, while ChatGPT wins the next research assignment, image task, or technical problem. FrostyStack recommends treating them as complementary power tools and keeping both available when the quality of the result matters.
